Abstract

In the Russian novel Pamjati Pamjati by Maria Stepanova miniature porcelain dolls, the so-called Frozen Charlottes, link the past with the present. The Frozen Charlottes as surviving material artefacts and aspects of (survival) life in the 20th century are related with each other.

Professor of German as a foreign language at the International University IUBH, Bad Honnef, Germany.
