From Maxi to Mini and Vice Versa: On the Motif of the Fashion Doll as Fashion Medium in the Work of Viktor & Rolf

En miniature, the limited edition of fashion dolls designed by the Dutch duo Viktor & Rolf represents their characteristic, conceptual fashion design. Since 2008, these exclusive designer dolls have been documenting exemplary iconic looks of previous seasonal fashion collections and can thus also be presented in a universal art context. Their function and role are manifold: as a reflexive fashion medium, they condense and stage the singular specifics of the fashion designs of Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, who work with surreal reflections, refractions, miniaturisations, but also enlargements and reversals of details; on the other hand, they refer meta-referentially to the communication and mediation of fashion in tradition and history.
