Abstract

The contribution addresses the questions if, and in which forms dolls and teddy bears are represented in magazines for children during times of political and economical instability. In 20th century Austria, such times not only include the two world wars, but also the periods between and the years following 1945. For the present study, selected examples taken from popular Austrian children‘s magazines were used. Although magazines for children were very popular during these periods with some having large distributions, a systematic exploration remains to be undertaken.
